Etowah Valley Yoga is located in Cartersville, Georgia, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, approximately 40 miles north of Atlanta. Our Studio is located at 801 West Avenue, Suite 206.

Sue Hopkins, E-RYT 500 opened Etowah Valley Yoga in May 2002 and began offering residents of Cartersville and North Georgia a “yoga only” center. The well-equipped center offers a quiet and calm studio for traditional yoga classes as well as workshops.

Earl Hightower and Lisa Siniard purchased Etowah Valley Yoga from Sue in October, 2018.  Lisa continued to manage EVY while the partners sought a larger facility to house both a Heated and Unheated practice. After locating an unfinished 3000 Sq. Ft. facility near the existing Yoga Ect. Facility (at 801 West Ave), an agreement with the owners for EVY began- to construct and finish a facility to meet the yoga needs of any person interested in yoga.

Their desire is to continue the rich tradition of quality yoga instruction and teacher training that Sue cultivated and nurtured from the beginning.

Sue Hopkins

Sue attended a teacher training program in Asheville, North Carolina and registered with Yoga Alliance in 2001 as a 200-hr. Registered Yoga Teacher.  She continued training over the years and in 2005 registered at the 500-hr. level. Continuing with her training and teaching the “E” designation was added to her credentials because she has achieved the “Experience” to not only teach yoga, but to teach others to teach yoga as well. In 2007 the 200-hr. Teacher Training program was approved by Yoga Alliance and since that time, has hosted hundreds of graduates who go on to become well-educated, passionate and articulate yoga teachers.

Because of her special interest in the therapeutic application of yoga, Sue continued her education and in August of 2007 completed a 1,000 hour training to become a Professional Yoga Therapist.

With her years of personal practice combined the level of training and teaching experience Sue is able to offer classes that are safe, challenging and enjoyable for any level student.

Sue has been registered with the Yoga Alliance since 2001.

Member International Association of Yoga Therapists since 2004.

Lisa Siniard

Lisa came to yoga in January 2009 and knew right away that yoga was a ‘life-changing’ experience.  Lisa trained with Sue Hopkins at Etowah Valley Yoga and is registered at the 500-hr. level and she has the “E” designation signifying that she has trained and taught the required number of hours to claim the “experienced” designation.  Lisa is also a Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher.  She has trained with Matthew Sanford, of MindBody Solutions in Minneapolis, Minnesota focusing on making yoga available to everyone no matter what physical issues the student may have.  Lisa currently leads the 200-hr Teacher Training program at Etowah Valley Yoga and teaches several classes each week.

Earl Hightower

Earl Hightower is a building contractor whose Yoga journey began in the fall of October 13th at the Hot Asana Yoga studio in Southern Pines N.C. There was an immediate connection to the coordination of breath, movement and sweat that struck an exciting chord for him.

Upon completing his contractor project in Southern Pines and returning to Cartersville, the appeal of hot yoga over traditional yoga led him to Hot Yoga Kennesaw (HYK). HYK became Earl’s home studio as the journey continued. By being actively involved with the studio and a regular practitioner, it was at HYK where his love of yoga evolved.

Fast forward to the end of 2015, Earl took advantage of the opportunity to purchase HYK with the sale culminating on 12/31/2015. The purchase brought a new dimension to the journey, challenging his practice with managing the studio along with getting his 200 hour Yoga teaching certificate. After much research on Infrared Radiant Heaters Earl converted HYK to IR heat with very positive results. Immediately upon managing HYK many people in the Cartersville area who attended HYK ask about a “Hot” studio in Cartersville. Earl’s reply was he’d never compete with Sue Hopkins from a business or yoga perspective. Earl considers Sue Hopkins the “mother church of yoga” of Cartersville.

The Fall of 2018 Sue contacted Earl and others about her desire to sell Etowah Valley Yoga (EVY). Immediately intrigued, he knew it would be overwhelming to try to manage multiple studios with his general contractor business, so Earl approached Lisa Sinaird about partnering together to purchase EVY. The die were cast.

Earl’s favorite quote is from Joseph Campbell. “As we age and look back over our life. Events that happened, people who have came and went. It’ll read like a great novel, with you as the author. Cheers to turning another page, at EVY.
